Fishing tours are a great way for you to spend time with your friends and catch the fish you have always wanted. When you go fishing alone, you may go to a spot that is convenient and close to home. But if you are on a fishing tour, they will take you to places you may have not even been fishing before. These may be in the ocean or to lakes, or rivers in the area. Fishing tours are quite popular for people to do as it is a chance to get away for the weekend and spend it with people who you know enjoy fishing as much as you do.

The question is; do you put up the cash and go for the big game fishing charter and high dollar fishing expert, or do you grab a map and hope for the best saving a few bucks in the process?

In most cases when you use a big game fishing guide you don’t even need any fishing gear to begin with. All the equipment is supplied by the fishing guide and the company that is chartering him. Most fishing guide services are almost guaranteed to catch you your limit of the target fish. All in all the chartered trip will be less hassle, frustration, and time and more times than not you will fill a cooler with the limit of the day.

Your Options

On the other hand, if you are the adventurous type. The type that takes more pride home after catching one good fish that you “earned” and found yourself, then the fishing guide option may not be your best bet for a good trip. Many fisherman enjoy the chase, just as much as the catching and eating. If this is your case, then the guided charters will feel forced, and almost unfair to the fish you came to conquer. The best option for this type of person is a self-planned, hard earned, through the mud kind of path to the water. Whether there’s a fish caught or not, the story of the trip will be worth the full coolers of the fishing guides when they get back into the wharf.

So if it’s a pre-planned no hassle, and most importantly no map reading skills required trip you have in mind, then it’s the fishing guide for you. If you are going fishing for the mud in your boots, the maps and the frustration topped off with the biggest alligator you ever saw, then hit the trail with your compass and an old map. The fishing guide won’t give you the trip you’re looking for.
